Privacy policy

Effective 24 October 2026

Misebook is a family dinner planner for iPhone. This notice, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), covers the Misebook app, misebook.com and the Misebook connection for AI apps.

Who is responsible

Misebook is developed by Sharif Bayoumy, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 95012755, Van Duijnwater 14, 2497 ZN The Hague, the Netherlands. We are the data controller. Contact: contact@misebook.com.

On your iPhone

Without an account, your kitchen, recipe photos, unfinished scans and backups stay on your iPhone and aren't sent to us. Pages are read on your iPhone with Apple's Live Text and Vision; Apple's on-device Foundation Models may arrange imported text into a recipe, never adding amounts or steps, and you review every import. The app asks for the camera to scan pages and the microphone only for hands-free cooking.

You don't have to give us any personal data. You need an account only to sync and share kitchens, and to buy Misebook Family. We don't make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Chef, Misebook's kitchen helper

Chef checks scanned pages (with Misebook Family, or free as described below) and answers questions while you cook. Chef never writes your recipe: your iPhone builds it from the page and you review it. Page checks go through our servers to TypeSafe and Cloudflare, questions to TypeSafe, and hands-free speech to ElevenLabs, for that request only. Our servers don't store these photos, texts, recordings, questions or answers. TypeSafe's terms and Cloudflare say they don't train AI models on it, and Misebook's ElevenLabs account has opted out of training.

Chef asks first

The app asks before anything is sent: once for page checks, once for hands-free cooking and once for typed questions. Each question says what is sent and to which companies. Nothing of that kind leaves your iPhone until you choose Allow. If you choose Not now, Misebook keeps working on your iPhone. You can change each choice in Settings → Chef and privacy; it's saved on this iPhone, not with your account.

Free Chef checks

Chef checks the pages of your first 3 recipes in one scan without an account, and of 5 recipes a week with an account without Misebook Family, counted per account and per iPhone. Our servers don't store your page photos: to count each page once they keep a fingerprint of each photo (a SHA-256 hash that can't be turned back into the photo). Apple's App Attest and DeviceCheck confirm requests come from the genuine app and let us store two flags with Apple for your iPhone, so reinstalling doesn't restart the free checks. These don't tell us who you are.

Everyone in a shared kitchen can see and change what's in it. A recipe you share as a link is visible to anyone with its misebook.com/r/ link. For a recipe scanned from a printed cookbook, the page shows only its title, photo and the book's name. We never publish names, photos from your iPhone or your plan.

Purchases

Misebook Family is sold through the App Store. Apple is the payment processor and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see your card or Apple Account details.

Launch emails

If you join the launch list on this website, Resend sends the emails and stores the list, and we add you only after you confirm. You can leave from your confirmation page or any launch update; we then keep only that you opted out, so you aren't added again.

Optional app analytics

Usage sharing is off by default. If you turn on Share usage analytics in Settings, the iPhone app sends the usage and technical data listed above to PostHog's EU Cloud service. Events use a device-generated anonymous identifier before sign-in and your account identifier when signed in, without your name or email address. Signing out or changing accounts resets the analytics identity. This choice applies only to this iPhone and doesn't affect the features you can use.

We don't send recipe text, kitchen or household names, shopping text, photos, source or shared-link URLs, questions or voice recordings to PostHog. Automatic interaction capture, session replay and location enrichment from your IP address are disabled. Like any network service, PostHog receives your IP address when handling a request.

Turn sharing off in Settings at any time to stop analytics requests and delete unsent analytics cached on this iPhone. Events already sent remain in PostHog; turning sharing off or deleting your Misebook account does not automatically erase them. To request erasure, write to contact@misebook.com. See PostHog's privacy policy for its practices.

What we don't do

No ads or advertising IDs, and we don't sell your data or share it for advertising. This website has no analytics or tracking tools and sets no cookies. App analytics is optional, as described above. If you share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports.

Who handles data for us

These companies handle data as described here. Our database is in the EU (Ireland). The table lists locations and transfer safeguards, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) and the EU's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). You can ask us for a copy of the applicable agreements.

How long we keep it

DataKept
AccountUntil you delete it
KitchensUntil the last member closes the kitchen; leaving removes your membership
Recipe linksTurned off: the recipe copy at once, the link's code 30 days later
Invites30 days after they expire (they expire after 7 days)
Chef and hands-free requestsNot stored; hands-free use is counted for this month and last month only
Free first scanSession and photo fingerprints: 24 hours after it starts
Weekly free checksCounts and photo fingerprints: two weeks after the week ends; an iPhone's app-key record: 13 months after its last request
PurchasesWhile active and 24 months after the subscription or complimentary access ends; Apple's notifications: 180 days
Account deletion record30 days
Launch listUntil you leave; then only that you opted out

Our servers delete records past these periods once a day. That cleanup doesn't delete analytics held by PostHog. For analytics already sent, you can request erasure at contact@misebook.com.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, and for it to be corrected, erased, restricted or given to you to take elsewhere. You can object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw consent at any time (in Settings → Chef and privacy, Settings → Share usage analytics, or from any launch email) without affecting what was done before. Write to contact@misebook.com and we'll answer within a month. You can also complain to the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the authority where you live. People outside the EU can use the same rights and contact.

Deleting your account

Delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, kitchens where you're the only member, the links you shared and your kitchen-service usage records; in shared kitchens you're removed and the others keep the kitchen. Analytics already sent to PostHog remains there unless separately erased; contact us to request its erasure. We keep subscription records without your account link, for refunds and tax, for the periods above. For 30 days we also keep a one-way hash of your account identifier so a deleted account can't be used again. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription; cancel it in your App Store settings. If you can't use the app, write to contact@misebook.com from the address you sign in with.

Children

Misebook is made for adults. People under 16 shouldn't create an account. If you think someone under 16 has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

When we change how Misebook uses data, we update this page and its date. For important changes we'll tell you in the app before they apply.
