Answers to common questions about the Misebook app for iPhone. If yours isn't here, write to us.
Getting started
What do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Misebook is made for iPhone. Install it from the App Store.
How do I set it up?
Open Misebook and choose Start my kitchen. Name your kitchen, add who usually eats, then bring in a few recipes: scan a cookbook, paste a link or choose photos. A new kitchen starts empty, so it only holds the recipes you bring in.
What is the free first scan?
While you set up Misebook, you can scan a cookbook and Chef, Misebook's kitchen helper, checks the pages of your first 3 recipes for free. You don't need an account. Each iPhone gets one free first scan, and reinstalling the app doesn't give another. After the third recipe, the rest of the scan is read on your iPhone.
Do I need an account?
No. Recipes, planning, the shopping list and cooking all work on your iPhone without one. You need an account to keep your kitchen in sync, share it, use Chef's weekly free checks and subscribe to Misebook Family.
At the end of setup, choose Create account and sign in with Apple or with your email address. You can do this later in Settings (the gear on Today) with Connect your account. Signing out keeps your kitchen on the iPhone.
I have a new iPhone. How do I get my kitchen back?
On the welcome screen, choose I already use Misebook and sign in with the same account. Your kitchen opens if it synced with that account. A kitchen that only lived on your old iPhone comes across with a backup: export one in Settings under Your data → Export kitchen backup, then use Import kitchen backup on the new iPhone.
Importing recipes
Where do I add a recipe?
On Today, tap Import a recipe or Scan a cookbook page. You can paste a link, scan pages with the camera, choose photos or a video from Photos, or paste text such as a caption, an email or notes. You check every recipe before it's saved.
Which links work?
Recipe websites, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Websites are read for the recipe data they publish. Instagram doesn't let apps read a post's caption, so take a screenshot of the recipe and choose it with From Photos, or copy the caption and paste it as text.
Can I share a recipe to Misebook from another app?
Yes. Use the share button in Safari, Photos or another app and choose Misebook. It keeps the link, text or photo, and the next time you open Misebook you review it before it's added.
How does cookbook scanning work?
Choose Scan pages and turn the pages; recipes appear as you go. Your iPhone reads each page with Live Text. With Chef checks on, Chef also looks at the page photo: it checks printed amounts, which kind of page it is and where the dish photo is, and points out parts that may be missing. Chef never writes your recipe. The text comes from the page, missing details can stay blank, and you review each recipe before saving it. A scan you leave unfinished stays on your iPhone, under Recipes, until you save or discard it.
Can I import a video?
Yes, a flip-through video of a cookbook. Choose it with From Photos. Videos are read on your iPhone and don't use free Chef checks.
How many free Chef checks do I get?
Signed in without Misebook Family, Chef checks the pages of 5 recipes a week, from the camera or Photos. The week starts on Monday at 00:00 UTC. Checks are counted per account and per iPhone, so accounts signed in on the same iPhone share its 5. When they run out, the scan carries on and the rest is read on your iPhone. Misebook Family checks every page.
Can I turn Chef checks off?
Yes. In Settings, under Chef and privacy, turn off Check scanned pages with Chef. Pages are then read only on your iPhone. With checks on, page photos and their text go through Misebook's servers for the check and aren't stored.
Misebook Family
What does it include?
One plan covers one kitchen and adds:
- sharing the kitchen with the people you cook with, who join free;
- hands-free cooking, about 60 cooking sessions a month;
- asking Chef about the recipe you're cooking;
- Chef checks on every scanned page.
Recipes, planning, shopping, timers and cooking stay free without it.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, 14 days free, then the monthly or yearly price the App Store shows before you confirm. Apple offers the trial once per Apple Account. To avoid being charged, cancel at least a day before the trial ends.
How do I manage or cancel it?
In Misebook, open Settings and tap Manage Subscription under Misebook Family. You can also go to your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn it off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Deleting the app or your Misebook account doesn't cancel it.
I paid but don't have it. How do I restore my purchase?
Sign in with your Misebook account, then tap Restore Purchases in Settings under Misebook Family, or on the Misebook Family screen. If your plan is linked to another Misebook account, restoring moves it to the one you're signed in with. A plan can move between Misebook accounts at most twice in 30 days.
Does it work with Family Sharing?
Yes. With Family Sharing, up to five family members can use it on their own Apple Accounts. Each signs in to Misebook with their own account, and the plan then covers their kitchen. Settings shows "Shared with you through Family Sharing". People you only want to cook with don't need this: invite them to your kitchen and they join free.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles payments and refunds for App Store subscriptions. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What happens when it ends?
Nothing is deleted. Your recipes and plans stay. Sharing pauses, and hands-free cooking and questions to Chef stop. Step and timer buttons keep working.
Hands-free cooking
How do I turn it on?
Turn on Hands-free cooking in Settings under Chef and privacy, or from the cooking screen. Misebook asks to use the microphone the first time. Hands-free cooking needs an account, a connection and Misebook Family.
What can I say?
"Next" moves to the next step, "Repeat" reads the step again and "Set a timer" starts the timer the step calls for. You can also ask Chef about the recipe, such as "How much garlic?", and Chef answers from the recipe in front of you.
Is Misebook always listening?
No. It listens only while the cooking screen is open and hands-free is on. When it hears speech, it sends that clip through Misebook's servers to understand it. Nothing is recorded when the screen is closed, and recordings aren't stored.
It stopped listening. Why?
Hands-free pauses after 10 quiet minutes, or when another app such as a phone call is using the microphone. Tap to resume. If the month's sessions are used up, Settings shows when they come back, on the first of the month (UTC). If Misebook can't use the microphone, allow it for Misebook in your iPhone's Settings.
Connecting AI apps
What can an AI app do with Misebook?
You can connect Claude, ChatGPT or another app that supports custom MCP connectors. It can read your kitchens' recipes, week plan and shopping list, plan or move dinners, and change the shopping list. It can't import or edit recipes or change who is in a kitchen. Connecting is free with a Misebook account.
How do I connect one?
Add a custom connector with this address:
https://mcp.misebook.com/mcp
In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. In ChatGPT, turn on Developer mode under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings, then choose Create and pick OAuth for authentication. Then sign in with your Misebook account and approve access. Menu names change from time to time; if these have moved, follow the app's own help for custom connectors.
It can't find my kitchen, or can't change it.
A kitchen shows up after Misebook on your iPhone has saved it at least once while signed in. If a shared kitchen's sharing is paused, the AI app can read it but can't change it.
How do I disconnect?
Remove the Misebook connector in that app. Access it already has can last up to 24 hours.
Deleting your account
How do I delete my account?
In Misebook, open Settings and tap Delete account (shown while you're signed in). Misebook lists what will be deleted and offers to export a kitchen backup first. Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Delete account.
What gets deleted?
- Your account and sign-in.
- Every kitchen where you're the only member, with its recipes, plans, shopping list, invites and recipe links.
- Recipe links you shared, which stop working.
- Your Chef allowance and Misebook's records of your use.
- On that iPhone, the account's kitchens, their recipe photos and any unsaved scan. Misebook starts again from the welcome screen.
AI apps you connected lose access.
What is kept?
- Kitchens you share with other people. They keep the kitchen and its recipes, and you're removed from it. If you owned it, the person who joined next becomes the owner.
- Records of your App Store subscription transactions, without your name, email address or Misebook account, for renewals, refunds and tax.
- A one-way hash of your account identifier for 30 days, so the deleted account can't be used again.
- Your iPhone's records for free Chef checks, which hold no account, so deleting and recreating an account doesn't restart that iPhone's checks.
Does deleting my account cancel Misebook Family?
No. Cancel it in your App Store settings (see Misebook Family). If your plan was the only one covering a shared kitchen, that kitchen's sharing pauses until someone there subscribes.
I can't open the app. Can you delete my account?
Yes. Write to us from the email address you sign in with (see Contact).
Privacy
Without an account, your kitchen stays on your iPhone. With one, your kitchens sync to Misebook's servers so you can share them. The privacy policy explains what Misebook collects, why, which companies handle it and how long it's kept.
